Lorraine is the lead stylist and coordinator for Harvesting Love Events. Her specialty is making sure that every element from your floral arrangements to the venue space are cohesively pieced together to create an intimately beautiful event. One of her greatest assets that vendors have noted about her is the ability to stay in control, calm, and remain positive throughout any situation.
She was born and raised in Southern California but moved up to the greater bay area after she married. When she is not planning events you will find her making homemade asian meals for her husband (yea… she’s one of those girls that takes pictures of her food or what she calls “styling” practice), rock climbing, exploring new countries, and sharing moments with close friends over a delicious meal.
My Journey to Becoming an Event Designer/Coordinator:
Unlike most event designers/planners out there, I did not graduate college with any artsy design related degree or worked in the hospitality industry. I graduated as an Animal Science major and later on became an elementary school teacher afterwards. So how in the world did I end up doing event design/planning? For most of my life, I always LOVED to do anything artsy related and everything crafty. Outside of my schooling, I would spend most of my time painting, crafting, and drawing. Growing up in the Asian culture, I felt as if pursuing a career in anything related to the arts was frowned upon.
It wasn’t until my wedding that I became exposed to the industry. I never would have imagined that I would fall in love with the world of weddings. I was a bit of a tomboy growing up and my family members are still surprised that I’m an event designer/planner. While planning my wedding, I decided to blog about my whole journey because I knew a ton of my friends would be following the same footsteps as me. The more I became involved in my wedding blog, the more I realized I had a lot of misconceptions about this industry. Through my blog, I got to know amazing vendors, exercise my creativity brain, help out other brides going through the same journey, and most importantly, I had a huge awakening about what I was passionate and good at.
Right after I got married, my friends began asking me to coordinate their weddings and the more events I did, the more I realized I had a knack for it. During work and afterwards, I would never stop thinking about what it would be like to actually pursue a career in the events industry. There was A LOT of fear that was dwelling inside of me. There was the fear of what my family would think of me, failure, juggling two jobs, and the list kept going on and on. I could have let my fears hold me back, but I decided to stop my self-pitying party saying that I wasn’t good enough or talented and took the leap.
Ever since I took that leap in August 2012 to start Harvesting Love Events, I have NEVER regretted my decision. Having my own business and doing something where I’m always feeling inspired is rewarding and refreshing. I’ve learned a lot about my capabilities, met so many inspiring people, and learned a lot of different things. Being there for my clients and seeing how happy they are with how everything turned out is one of the best feelings in the world. It’s always an honor for me to be part of their special day and celebrate with them. It’s been a great journey so far, and so much more to come.
